No way that would happen. They run those RCs because they get a boatload of donation money. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

2017 Conventions
by Maryo inin view of the terrorist attacks going on in the world right now, as well as the high degree of animosity towards jehovah's witnesses as a result of their shuning practices, etc., i think it would be wise for the wts to discontinue meeting for large conventions and use live streaming and broadcasts instead.
even with the increased security measures being put in place this year, it would not be surprising if some incidents take place.
has anyone heard any talk in this regard?.

If Jesus had to choose his earthly organisation NOW, who would win?
by stuckinarut2 inwe all know that the society claims that jesus invisibly chose the bible students (forerunners of jw) in 1919 to be his organization here on earth.. yet, as we know, so much of what they then taught and did was wrong according to current teaching and practice.. the reply witnesses will give is something like "they were the most sincere seekers of truth blah blah...and jesus could see their potential".
so, pretend for a moment that the current organization and the 1919 organization were both in concurrent existence at the time he invisibly came to choose.... which would he choose?
the current or former?.

Cool Steel - Are you saying the Catholic Church is Jesus organization? Seriously? I can't think of an organization with a worse history.
Plus, Jesus didn't put all that organizational structure in place. Paul did. Now, you may believe Paul was acting under Jesus instructions but that's difficult to prove. If Jesus wanted all that structure in place, why didn't he do it?
Reading the Gospel accounts, Jesus pointed out time and time again how power (religious or otherwise) corrupts and that following an organization was not the way. Didn't he say "I am the way".

Assuming Jesus was who his followers say he was, he wouldn't need an organization! And, he'd be awfully disappointed by the organizations that say the represent him.

Any leaked GB expense receipts?
by Bad_Wolf ini heard how in the 80's the gb always flew first class, nice resort hotels, etc.
there are the photos of geoffrey with his 17k apple watch, etc.
unless they are paying for cash, many of these things would have a paper trail on credit card statements, etc.

cha ching -I understand but most JWs don't see it. And most non-JWs couldn't give a crap about anything JW. Honestly, I think most religious leaders are hypocrites at best, charlatans more likely. Just another example of how they aren't any better than any other religion unlike the special status they claim.
Wakanda - yeah I'm higher than a gold but when I was gold I still got upgraded but not as frequently. The cross country flights are much harder to get into first class and you have a better chance on shorter flights at non-peak hours.

I fly pretty frequently for work and get upgraded maybe 40% of the time to first class and the rest of the time to the 2nd tier economy plus with more legroom. I always buy a coach ticket. That's a free perk for individuals that have obtained certain status. I'm just flying domestically in the US. These guys fly internationally quite frequently. Plus domestically. I would venture to guess most of them have qualified for the top tier frequent flyer status and would be at the top of the list for upgrades. Also, many companies (mine included) allow you to book business class for international flights.
Remember, this is a business. The GB are the top executives of a multi-billion dollar business. Many companies top executives actually fly a private jet.
I also think the expensive possessions are likely gifts from wealthy JWs to curry favor.
While it's hypocritical for them to have expensive suits while admonishing JWs to not go to college and not worry about having careers, I think it's way down on the list of terrible things they do.
I think criticizing them on things like their awful child abuse policies and dangerous blood policies is more effective. Quite frankly, no JW would care about their spending and no one on the outside would either.

I just watched that video and it really pisses me off. I was very young back then but old enough to know what was being said and quite frankly being scared to death. For them to continue to blame the R&F for the 1975 expectations is just unreal. If the "brother" in that video had expressed that "something wasn't right" during the lead up to 1975, he would have been run out of the congregation. Sigh, they really have no shame.

Oooh, caught a JW colleague telling porkies at work this week.
by nicolaou inthere's a jw 'sister' at work, lovely girl in her mid twenties.
anyway, on monday the union (cwu) called a one day strike in support of colleagues and all union members supported the action as far as i'm aware, except the sister.. she claimed it was 'against her religion' to strike.
bare in mind, she's a fee paying member of the union.. now, a few of my workmates know of my past and asked me if this was really true, that jehovah's witnesses aren't allowed to strike.. we'll, i like this girl and i didn't want to make her look silly but what was i supposed to say after i stopped laughing?

Didn't one of the videos at the RC last year have a kid who decided to give up his dream of being a professional musician so he could pioneer or some such nonsense? Pretty ironic if that's the case.

Major changes to convention security beginning in 2017
by Edison Trent inshort info on interesting changes to the major conventions this year: there will be a new security concept that will be implemented at all regional conventions in 2017.. similar to other major events (e.g.
festivals, concerts), there will be admittance controls in stadiums.. - at each entrance, there will be a massive presence of attendants that look at each visitor.. - there will be pocket checks at the entrance.. - suspicious persons are no longer left on the convention grounds.. - suppliers to the stadium will be intensively inspected by attendants.. - there will be a special sign for attendants that must enter the stadium before 7.30 am.
all others (even all attendants) can only enter after 7.30 am..

I don't have an issue with this at all. Every time I go to a major sporting event or concert or even visit places like museums, you have to go through a metal detector. Given issues with terrorists (whatever their motivation), I could certainly see an event like that being an easy target. Just makes sense to me.
Given the way JWs treat former members and break up families, I'm actually surprised that someone hasn't threatened violence or carried it out in the past.

Outcome - Banned in Russia - Final
by OrphanCrow ini just watched the live feed from the russian court room and followed the updates on the russian exjw forum.. just waiting for confirmation from other sources...but, it looks like the final (and expected) result is:.
banned.
which means that the wts property in russia now belongs to the russian state..

I think that freedom to practice religion (or not) is a fundamental human right that governments shouldn't take away. As much as I want the WTS to disappear, this isn't the way. This will have impact not just on JWs but on every other religion that Russia decides they don't like.
Incidentally, I absolutely hate the fact that in many countries religions get preference treatment via being exempt from tax. Freedom to meet is fine and good, I just don't want to support religions via my tax dollars.
